Golden Residency — public investments & real estate
Per the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) Golden Residency page (updated March 2026), investors may obtain long-term residency without a sponsor. Public investments are typically 10 years; the ICP table notes 5 years for real-estate investments. Public-investment evidence options: letter from an approved investment fund confirming deposit ≥ AED 2 million; valid commercial/industrial licence with Articles of Association showing capital ≥ AED 2 million; or Federal Tax Authority letter that the owner/partner pays ≥ AED 250,000 annual tax. Capital must be owned (not a loan). Real-estate track: letter from the Real Estate Registration Department proving ownership of property/properties valued ≥ AED 2 million (without loans) plus proof of residence in the UAE. Medical insurance for self and family is required. Always re-read icp.gov.ae before transferring funds.

-
2
Assemble ICP documents
Fund/licence/FTA letters or registration-department ownership letter, insurance, passport, residence proof.
-
3
Apply for Golden Residency
Follow ICP Golden Residency service steps; eligibility assessor may be available on the ICP page.
-
4
Reside & renew
Maintain investment/property conditions; confirm renewal rules if status changes.
Family
ICP highlights the ability to issue residency for spouse and children. Confirm current dependent rules and insurance requirements on official pages.
Work rights
Golden Residency is described as enabling living, working, studying, and investing without a sponsor — confirm activity permissions on your specific approval.
Route to PR
UAE does not offer an EU-style permanent residence. Golden Residency is a long-term, renewable, sponsor-free residence status. Maintain eligibility conditions.
Route to citizenship
UAE citizenship is rare and exceptional (discretionary / special cases). Do not plan on naturalisation as a standard business-immigration outcome. Dual nationality with Pakistan has separate legal implications — seek counsel.
Pros
- Published ICP floors (AED 2M / AED 250k tax alternative)
- Sponsor-free long-term residency (10 years public / 5 years property per ICP)
- Family residency benefits highlighted by ICP
- Strong regional hub for trade, logistics, and services
Watch-outs
- Capital/property must be owned — loan-financed structures are a common failure point
- Not all property types allow foreign freehold — verify before purchase
- Thresholds and document formats change — verify ICP before remitting from Pakistan
- Citizenship is not a realistic planning assumption for most founders
