Argentina business pathways

No simple published “golden visa” — rentista/pensionado and other DNM temporary routes; company formation ≠ residence. Verify migraciones.gob.ar.

Official DNM category

Temporary residence — Rentista (own means)

Official Argentina.gob.ar service: temporary residence for foreigners who finance their stay with benefits from assets incorporated into their patrimony and originating abroad (financial instruments, real estate, company holdings, or other situations as judged by the Dirección General de Inmigración) — personal labour remuneration is not included in this category. DNM dispositions (e.g. Disposición 1732/2023 and updates such as 3446/2023) fix the minimum rent to prove rentista condition at an amount equivalent to FIVE (5) Salarios Mínimo Vital y Móvil (SMVM). Funds should enter through banks/financial institutions authorised by the BCRA. Process via RaDEX. Typical grant described on the service page: temporary residence for 1 year, renewable (law also contemplates longer maximums in some texts — verify current practice). This is NOT a fixed-USD “invest X for a visa” product like Chile’s investor subcategory.

Min. capital

No fixed USD investment floor published

Best for: Founders or investors who can prove recurring foreign-source passive income at or above 5 SMVM without relying on local employment wages.

Official test is income: ≥ 5 SMVM (Argentine minimum living wage), not a published USD capital investment amount. Convert SMVM to ARS/USD at application time; verify current SMVM and DNM dispositions on argentina.gob.ar. If you see blogs quoting a USD “golden visa” number for Argentina, treat it as unverified unless you find it on migraciones.gob.ar / argentina.gob.ar.

Investment options

  • Documented rental / dividend / financial income from foreign assets (≥ 5 SMVM)
  • Proof assets are in your patrimony (not personal employment salary)
  • Inbound transfers via BCRA-authorised institutions
  • RaDEX filing with DNM fee payment and biometrics appointment

Eligibility

  • Foreign national financing stay with foreign-source asset income (rentista definition)
  • Prove rent ≥ 5 SMVM under current DNM disposition
  • Banking path of funds into Argentina as required
  • General DNM identity, criminal-record, and entry requirements
  • Not a substitute for Mercosur nationality routes

Process timeline

  1. 1

    Confirm SMVM & documents

Check current 5× SMVM ARS amount and gather foreign income/asset proofs.

  2. 2

    File on RaDEX

Create user, pay fees, upload category documents on migraciones.gob.ar RaDEX.

  3. 3

    In-person appointment

Attend DNM appointment with originals as instructed.

  4. 4

    Renew / plan permanence

Temporary residence is time-limited; follow official renewal and permanence rules.

Family

Family members may need their own filings; income rules for family groups can require per-applicant evidence under DNM dispositions — verify the current service page.

Work rights

Rentista is framed around own-means income, not local employment wages. If you need to work as an employee or operate actively, confirm whether another subcategory or authorization is required — do not assume open work rights.

Route to PR

Temporary residence may lead to permanent residence when DNM legal criteria and time requirements are met — verify current migraciones.gob.ar permanence rules. There is no automatic PR solely from forming a company.

Route to citizenship

Naturalisation is separate. Confirm Argentine and Pakistani dual-nationality rules.

Pros

  • Officially documented own-means category (not invented)
  • Income threshold published in SMVM via DNM dispositions
  • Useful for founders who already have foreign passive income while exploring the market

Watch-outs

  • Not a Chile-style USD 500k investor visa — do not invent capital floors
  • Employment salary does not qualify as rentista income
  • SMVM and DNM dispositions change — re-check before applying
  • Mercosur residence is not available to Pakistani nationals
Argentina.gob.ar — Residencia temporaria como rentista
Not a golden visa

Company formation & short business presence

You can form an Argentine company (e.g. SAS/SRL through AFIP/IGJ and provincial processes), but company registration does not by itself grant residence. For short commercial trips, Argentina.gob.ar documents temporary entry/permission pathways for business activities and extensions for businesses, investments, market studies, or fairs — these are short-stay tools, not multi-year investor residence. For longer stay, match a DNM temporary subcategory (rentista, pensionado, employment, family, etc.) on official pages. Investor-capital amounts for a dedicated long-term “investor residence” are not clearly published as a single USD golden-visa figure — verify current investment/rentista thresholds on migraciones.gob.ar and the Argentine consulate rather than inventing numbers.

Min. capital

Verify on DNM / consulate

Best for: Founders who need lawful short business presence or who will pair company setup with a documented DNM residence category.

No authentic single published USD “golden visa” floor analogous to Chile’s USD 500,000 investor subcategory was used for this guide. If an investment-based subcategory applies to your facts, confirm amounts only on migraciones.gob.ar, argentina.gob.ar, or consular instructions.

Investment options

  • Company capital as required by Argentine corporate law (separate from immigration)
  • Short-term business entry/permission categories per Argentina.gob.ar
  • Longer stay via rentista / other DNM temporary subcategories that match your facts

Eligibility

  • Corporate formation rules (AFIP, registries) are separate from DNM residence
  • Short business stays: follow official temporary business entry requirements
  • Longer residence: qualify under a published DNM subcategory
  • Pakistanis cannot use Mercosur nationality residence tracks

Process timeline

  1. 1

    Separate company vs immigration tracks

Incorporate if needed, but pick the correct DNM residence basis in parallel.

  2. 2

    Short visit vs temporary residence

Do not overstay a business visit hoping it becomes residence.

  3. 3

    RaDEX for temporary residence

When eligible for a subcategory, file online and attend DNM.

  4. 4

    Consulate check

If applying from abroad, follow the Argentine consulate’s current checklist.

Family

Depends on the residence subcategory — verify DNM family rules.

Work rights

Depends entirely on the immigration category granted. Company ownership alone does not equal work authorization.

Route to PR

Follow DNM rules for permanent residence after qualifying temporary stay — verify officially.

Route to citizenship

Separate naturalisation process.

Pros

  • Clear official distinction: business setup vs migration status
  • Short business pathways exist for market exploration

Watch-outs

  • Do not rely on unofficial USD investment figures
  • Mercosur residence marketing does not apply to Pakistani passports
  • Pensionado is a different subcategory (foreign pension income) — only use if it fits
Dirección Nacional de Migraciones

Compare pathways

Scan capital, innovation requirements, and fit in one table.

Pathway Published capital? Basis Pakistan note
Rentista temporary residence No fixed USD floor ≥ 5 SMVM foreign asset income Official DNM category
Company formation Corporate law capital only Not residence by itself Pair with a DNM category
Mercosur residence N/A Mercosur nationality NOT available to Pakistanis
Chile-style golden visa N/A in Argentina Do not invent equivalent amounts

Route to PR & citizenship

Argentina’s Law 25.871 framework sets temporary and permanent residence subcategories administered by DNM. Always verify current service pages.

Temporary then permanent

Rentista and other temporary residences are time-limited and may be renewable. Permanent residence has its own DNM criteria and timelines.

Pensionado note

A separate temporary subcategory exists for persons receiving a foreign pension. Official dispositions have referenced the same 5 SMVM magnitude in related own-means contexts — confirm the current pensionado service requirements on argentina.gob.ar before relying on them.

Mercosur caveat

Mercosur temporary/permanent residence tracks are for nationals of Mercosur States Parties and associates. Pakistani nationals are not Mercosur nationals and must not be advised to use those checklists.

Nationality

Citizenship is separate from residence. Confirm dual-nationality rules for Pakistan and Argentina.

After you arrive

Operational checklist once the visa is granted.

  1. 1 Complete RaDEX / DNM appointments and obtain DNI for foreigners when instructed
  2. 2 Obtain CUIL/CUIT and register taxes if operating a company
  3. 3 Open banking with clear foreign-income documentation (rentista)
  4. 4 Keep SMVM calculations and income proofs for renewals
  5. 5 Do not assume company directorship equals work permission
  6. 6 Track temporary residence expiry dates carefully
  7. 7 Coordinate Pakistan remittances with BCRA-authorised channels

Living costs & runway

Rough monthly estimates for a relocating founder (excluding business capital). Argentina’s prices move with inflation/FX — treat as estimates and verify locally at travel time.

Buenos Aires

USD $1,000 – $2,000 (est.)

  • Housing (1-bed) USD $500 – $1,100
  • Food & groceries USD $250 – $400
  • Transport USD $30 – $70
  • Utilities & mobile USD $70 – $140
  • Misc / coworking USD $100 – $250

Pakistan founder checklist

Practical prep before you book consulate appointments or move capital.

  • Do not budget a Chile-style USD 500k “Argentina golden visa” — it is not published that way
  • If using rentista: prove ≥ 5 SMVM foreign asset income on current DNM rules
  • Separate company formation steps from DNM residence filing
  • Ignore Mercosur residence guides unless you hold Mercosur nationality (Pakistanis do not)
  • Use RaDEX / argentina.gob.ar service pages — not unofficial investment blogs
  • Prepare apostilled Pakistani police and civil documents as DNM requires
  • Plan BCRA-compliant fund transfers for rentista evidence
  • Ask the Argentine consulate for the latest checklist if applying from Pakistan
  • Re-check SMVM and DNM dispositions immediately before filing — they change
